KILDA STREET PERFORMERS

Sundays in St Kilda come alive!
Rediscover the colourful, bizarre and hilarious entertainment of street performers for the whole family!
Innovation, absurdity and intrigue are around every corner each Sunday afternoon for fifteen weeks. The first St Kilda Busking Festival began in March 2009 and was a huge success amongst families, the local
community & buskers. In 2010 the festival is back bigger and better. It is a journey of fun and frivolity that discovers some of Melbourne’s hidden artists, playing live on the street for your free (donations always accepted) enjoyment.
St Kilda has long been regarded as the artistic centre for performers, exhibitionists and general entertainers.
The St Kilda Busking Festival turns Fitzroy Street, St Kilda Sea Baths and Acland Street into a live stage that
delivers entertainment for children and adults alike.
Come down between 1pm and 4pm and catch a glimpse of St Kilda’s finest street performers including the king of rock himself - Elvis. Witness the insane, funny, musical and talented shows that celebrate this true art form.

DAVID STRASSMAN - TED E.’s FAREWELL TOUR

TOURING AUSTRALIA IN MAY
TICKETS ON SALE MONDAY 1 MARCH

The shyest little bear in show biz hangs up his show biz shoes…

but is this the end?

Popular American ventriloquist David Strassman is on his way to Australia to bid a sad farewell to one
of his beloved friends in “Ted E.’s Farewell Tour”. Tragically, Ted E. Bare, the much adored cuddly bear known and loved by audiences around the world, will be announcing his show biz retirement during a forthcoming Australian tour that will include performances in regional South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales throughout May.

Why is Ted E. leaving the stage after so much adulation? An addiction, a scandal, an affair? No! It’s finally just become too much for one timid bear to bare! The pressure, the publicity, the paparazzi, the tabloids!

And, most of all, his best friend, but worst enemy, Chuck Wood! A star-studded tribute to Ted E. Bare’s greatest show biz moments, “Ted E.’s Farewell Tour” will follow Strassman’s journey of discovery to replace the irreplaceable little bear. This moving, hilarious and wild ride will feature the razor sharp wit of Chuck Wood we have all come to fear, as well as uncover some new and extraordinary characters desperate to join the show in a hilarious “You’ve Got Talent- Puppet Edition” segment.

The existing characters you know and love also don’t take long to realize the opportunity that Ted’s exit
stage-left offers! Expect to see grumpy Grandpa Fred, the attention-seeking A.N.G.E.L. and intergalactic
Kevin battle it out with Chuck Wood to fill Ted E.’s very small shoes. David Strassman is considered by many to be one of the best ventriloquists in the world. His shows are hilariously funny and razor sharp, featuring full stage production complete with dazzling sets and state-of the-art theatrical effects. His shows involve multiple characters and high-tech puppetronics (robotics) that bring his characters to life, even when he has left the stage.

Embraced in Australia since his early performances in the 1990s, his numerous television appearances
and his own show on Channel 9, Strassman is now hoping Australian audiences can convince Ted E. to
remain on stage. But will Ted E. Bare really leave for good? Can the show go on without him? … You’ll need to buy a ticket to find out!

The Butchery Of Morph And Substance

A young man is locked in a white room. A desk, chair and an old typewriter are the only objects in the space. The man being held is being fed an experimental mystical drug called Substance. He is tortured; butchered both physically and mentally.
Wolfgang Baas is a young dance and multimedia artist who is fast developing a reputation for creating surreal, confronting and powerful movement theatre that is unafraid to tackle complex and serious contemporary issues.
Incorporating Black Alley Productions signature mix of film, physical theatre, movement, music and verse, The Butchery of Morph and Substance explores the male psyche in an explosive and stark environment.

The Butchery Of Morph And Substance is a surreal and confronting work
that tackles issue’s within society head on, in an unapologetic and
frightening manner.
We meet a man held within a white room, being fed a mythic drug called
Substance by ghosts from a new digital empire, of which lies just
beyond these minimalist confines.
As his dosage gets higher with passing days weeks and months, the
lingering effects become more alarming, more warped and more twisted,
as he looses all concepts that we hold true to life in the year twenty
ten.
“It is an adventure into the future to find the chord, to pull it from
socket, and to see the world around fall pixel by pixel. Revealing a
blacked mass; earth spewing pollution into murky sea’s from deep in
her bowels. Perhaps earth drunk her elixir, but a little to late, for
Substance can quickly turn to poison.”
Effortlessly employing verse, film, contemporary dance and physical
theater, twenty one year old Baas portrays the inner turmoil felt by
his character, with confidence and an eerie understanding that bridges
the gap between the esoteric and the existent, in this his seventh
solo work.
